Leadership Testimonials

"Joining the North Carolina Appraisal Institute has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Being a volunteer is a great opportunity to network, build valued relationships and to exchange ideas." Chris Johnson, MAI, SRA, ASA, 2020 President, NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, 2020 Education Committee, Appraisal Institute

"Serving in chapter leadership has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. It connected me with peers, colleagues, and mentors more so than I’d ever been, and enabled me to give back to a profession that has given so much to me. Being a chapter leader helped me to see the “big picture,” and gave me an opportunity to actually affect changes in the profession rather than just staying idle and bemoaning everything wrong with it. Chapter service and leadership are the backbone of the Appraisal Institute, and by extension, the lifeblood of the appraisal profession. The sustainability of the appraisal profession will depend heavily on the people who are willing to lead the way. I would encourage all members and affiliates – young and old – to serve your chapter. It’s a great opportunity to serve other people while simultaneously elevating your own professional profile." Joel G. Tate, SRA, RAA, 2018 President, NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute

"I have been involved in the Appraisal Institute or its predecessor the Society of Real Estate Appraisers since 1986. Coming into the profession is daunting at best, but becoming active at the local Chapter allowed me to develop peer relationships that have lasted ever since.  Whether is was a sounding board for work related issues, data needs, or just peer to peer conversation, Chapter involvement offered excellent resources. As I progressed through the committees and Chairs to Chapter President, the energy pulled from the involvement grew. I became interested in Regional and National opportunities along the way and embedded myself as I could. Although the Regional and National involvement resulted in my decision to serve as an AI officer, the fulfillment of the Chapter level service remains at the top of my list. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to circle back in to the NC Chapter and look forward to many years of continued involvement with my peers." Scott Robinson MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, AI-RRS, MRICS, 2020 Strategic Planning Committee Chair, Appraisal Institute, 2016 President, Appraisal Institute, 2005 President, NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute

"I’ve had a membership with the Appraisal Institute since 2001 beginning with the Chicago Chapter and in 2007, after having moved to Charlotte, with the North Carolina Chapter.  With the NCAI I’ve been a Candidate Committee Chair, LDAC Committee Chair, Metrolina Branch Chapter Chair (twice) and am currently serving as Vice President on the Executive Committee of the NCAI Board of Directors.  The more involved I get, the more I want to do and get others involved.  I’ve created long-lasting relationships statewide and in Charlotte through events, quarterly meetings, and classes.  It’s a true appraisal community that keeps me informed and makes me feel well supported." Vanessa Hall, MAI, 2020 Vice President, NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute

Serving at the Chapter level is an incredibly rewarding experience for an Appraisal Institute professional. What better way to network, make lifelong friends, gain a greater understanding of the industry, and grow your career? As an added benefit, you'll gain confidence speaking in front of crowds and learn valuable negotiating skills, all while helping make the appraisal world better for your peers. It's a win-win! - Claire M. Aufrance, MAI, SRA, 2019-2020 Vice Chair, Region V of the Appraisal Institute, 2020 - Strategic Planning Committee Member, Appraisal Institute, 2016 President, North Carolina Chapter of the Appraisal Institute

"I feel that when you are a member of an organization, you are saying that you believe in that group. Over and above the payment of dues, organizations thrive by the hands of their members. It’s a partnership in a way. My participation in chapter leadership has been an invaluable part of my professional and personal growth. I started on committees, chaired committees, served as a Director, and now have been through the chapter’s officer’s chain, which automatically exposes you to AI’s region and national levels.  There is so much to learn, and so many people to meet, outside of the appraisal office. The Appraisal Institute, our NC chapter and beyond, provides that amazing experience to anyone willing to go for it.  I can’t imagine not being a part of this special group of professionals and friends." Sheri Colvin, MAI, 2020 Immediate Past President, NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, 2020 Nominating Committee Chair, NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute 2020 Region V, Nominating Committee member
