The secretary's office is a one-year position. However, as the initial position on the NCAI Executive Committee, which is a committee that routinely succeeds in getting to the next office in line, it is actually the beginning of a six-year commitment. Eligibility: Open to all members (Designated, Candidate/PA, and Affiliates) but must be in the final stages of completing a designation However, in the NC Chapter, Chapter Officers (the Executive Committee) routinely succeed to the next Officer position. The Chapter President must be a designated member, and the Secretary is preferred to be a designated member. Non-designated interested parties should present evidence of imminent designation within the time frame of reaching the Chapter President's level. Duties Include: The Chapter Secretary shall keep an accurate record of the proceedings at all regular and special Chapter meetings. The Chapter Secretary shall deliver in writing a copy of the minutes from each regular or special Chapter meeting and each regular or special meeting of the Chapter Board of Directors to each Chapter Director and the Chief Executive Officer of the Appraisal Institute within thirty (30) days after such meeting. The Chapter Secretary prepares and issues the Chapter roster, effective January 1st of each calendar year, and maintains it. As applicable, the Chapter Secretary shall be responsible for the Chapter’s charter, seal, minute book and non-financial records. At the expiration of his or her term of office, the Chapter Secretary shall turn over to his or her successor the Chapter’s charter, seal, minute book, and non-financial records in his or her custody or control. The Chapter Secretary shall perform such other duties as may be prescribed by the Chapter Board of Directors or the Chapter President. In the NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, the Chapter Secretary and the executive director will take minutes for the Board of Directors and Chapter Business Meetings. He/she will then prepare them using the AI format shown in the most recent Chapter Operations Manual provided by National. After that, the minutes will be uploaded to the Chapter Minimum Chapter Criteria (MCC) page as per AI’s rules for submitting them to the CEO, etc., within 30 days of approval. In the NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute, the Chapter Secretary will keep a running, dated list of policies as they are enacted by any governing body of the chapter. At the earliest of either the policy’s stated expiration or one-year anniversary date, the enacting body will review the policy for further action at the next regular meeting under old business. A copy of policies should also be provided to the Bylaws Chair and Executive Director. The NC Chapter of the Appraisal Institute's Chapter Secretary is an automatic member of the chapter's Finance Committee. Please note: No travel reimbursements are typically offered. Director (Two Vacancies)Time: 3-year term. No elected Director may serve consecutive (3) three-year terms. Eligibility: Open to all members (Designated, Candidate/PA, and Affiliates) Duties Include: A Director is a voting member of the Chapter Board of Directors and is expected to attend Chapter board meetings (possibly held in various locations across the state), participate in discussions, and vote on items presented for vote. Per the Appraisal Institute’s Regulation 8, an elected member of the Chapter Board of Directors who fails to attend (3) three consecutive regularly scheduled Board meetings may be removed by a 60% vote of the voting members of the Chapter Board of Directors. Please note: No travel reimbursements are typically offered. Regional Representative (Three Vacancies)Time: 2-year term. Per Chapter Bylaws and Regulation 8: “Chapter Representatives shall serve no more than two (2) complete two (2) year terms.” Eligibility: Open to all members (Designated, Candidate/PA, and Affiliates) Duties Include: An elected Regional Representative is a voting representative of NCAI at regional meetings. Representatives are expected to attend region meetings in person or by proxy. As voting Representatives, it is preferred that representatives attend regional meetings in person whenever possible. Representatives are expected to keep abreast of Chapter, Regional, and National Appraisal Institute and industry issues to be able to make informed decisions. NCAI is in Region V. Region V typically has four meetings per year, with at least one being “in person.” In-person meetings can be in various states within the region and/or in conjunction with AI National’s annual conference. Chapters in Region V are North Carolina, Bluegrass (Kentucky), Hampton Roads (Virginia), Hoosier State (Indiana), Ohio, Virginia Commonwealth, and Mahoning Valley (NE Ohio). Please note: All meetings are via Zoom; no travel is required. Alternate Regional Representative (Up to Nine Vacancies)Time: 1-year term. Eligibility: Open to all members (Designated, Candidate/PA, and Affiliates) Duties Include: If the Chapter President and/or a sufficient number of Chapter Regional Representatives cannot attend a Regional meeting, Alternate Chapter Regional Representatives will be called upon as needed to achieve full Chapter representation at the Region meeting. As a voting Alternate Chapter Regional Representative, it is preferred that Alternate Chapter Representatives attend regional meetings in person whenever possible. Alternate Chapter Representatives are expected to keep abreast of Chapter, Regional, and National Appraisal Institute and industry issues to be able to make informed decisions. NCAI is in Region V. This region typically has four meetings per year, at least one of which is “in person.” These meetings can be in various regional states or in conjunction with AI National’s annual conference.
