Greensboro, NC at Cushman and Wakefield - Infrastructure Practice - Valuation & Advisory
How long have you been appraising?
20 years
Who was your supervisor as a Trainee and how did you meet them?
My supervisor was Steve Norris, MAI. I met him through a job posting for a real estate researcher position at his company.
What is the most unique property you’ve appraised?
All the properties I appraise are unique since they are all impacted by right of way/eminent domain issues that are unique to each property.
What is a fact about you, outside of work-life, that people would be surprised to know?
I grew up in Wisconsin, so I am a Green Bay Packers fan (Beer brats and sauerkraut too).
We’d like to welcome our new members who joined the Chapter in 2022! The newest members who joined in Q4 are Ernest Christopher Alford, III; David M. Aneser; Jack Branch; Olivia Hamilton; Walker Taylor Jones; Jesse A. Martinez; Linda Gail Nelson; and Tunisia Whitaker.
I came to the appraisal profession from the lending world in 1996 and never looked back. I am constantly fascinated by the myriad ways investors develop and make money from real estate.
My firm is headquartered in Charlotte, NC, and our practice is primarily focused on markets located throughout the Carolinas. The most unique property I have appraised was also the first property I appraised (with my supervisor), i.e., the South Carolina State Museum. The museum was housed in the historic Columbia Mill building along the river. The conversion of the museum was spectacularly beautiful. After appraising a property like that, I could never imagine doing anything else.
We’d like to welcome to our newest members to the Chapter!
September kicked off with the annual Real Estate Valuation Conference on 9/7, Joyce Pusay, SRA, AI-RRS taught a residential-focused class on 9/20, members approved the recent bylaw changes at the Q3 Chapter Business Meeting on 9/22, and members in Asheville spoke with Carla Barnard on 9/27 about market updates in the area. NCAI’s board and executive committee met this past month to discuss future programs and initiatives for the chapter as they looked ahead for 2023. October and November already have a full schedule with four education classes, a legislative webinar, and a networking social for female appraisers (event will be held in Charlotte). December will close out the year with one final education class and the Q4 Chapter Business Meeting & J. Scott Robinson Installation Ceremony held at the Foundation for the Carolinas in Charlotte. Add 12/1 to your calendar and make plans to connect with fellow members and guests to celebrate the end of the year and congratulate our newly designated members. Registration for the Q4 Chapter Business Meeting will open soon.

I am from and have lived in Gastonia, NC (Gaston County) all of my life. Currently (LOL) I work for Miles Hamrick Appraisal Services, Inc. My firm provides appraisals for commercial and residential properties, and data consulting services for private and public institutions on a wide range of property types.
How long have you been appraising?
I have been in the real estate and appraisal profession since 1986 ~ (38 years~).
The 2022 AI Leadership and Development Conference (LDAC) was held May 18-20 this year and NCAI had three that attended: Mike Elwell, Greyson Morgan, and Peter Hitchens. Greyson and Peter were first years and had the benefit of Mike Elwell who attended before the pandemic.
LDACstarted with a presentation from Melody Taylor regarding the recently published Property Appraisal and Valuation Equity Task Force (PAVE) Report. While AI suggests the data should be reviewed more, the overall report helps to educate stakeholders about the appraisal process.
